“My Own Boss” came to life while the artist was leaving an abusive relationship. She had a strong desire and need of a powersong to process and give strength to win back her life, as well as a hope to inspire others in similar situations, as there are far too many of them.

Written as a response to a friend who said he no longer saw any point in living. In the middle of the night, Eline Marie woke up, having dreamt the lyrics and melody, and recorded it on her phone in a half-asleep state. The next day, she added chords and finished the rough sketch of the song. She sent it to him, and he gradually changed his perspective on life. This experience made the artist realize that the ability to convey emotions through music can make a difference and reach others.
The song is about how everyone experiences ups and downs that affect us in different ways. It’s a part of life and makes us stronger. We need to be there for each other – humans are social beings. The song is a plea not to let the lows break you, but to work through them because life is worth living. There’s a reason for everything!
